This kind of damage is common. The neck area under the nut is the most vulnerable part of the guitar. Even a small impact can crack the neck along the grain of the wood.
This looks nasty, but it can usually be repaired effectively.
After the crack is braced and glued, the finish is touched up. While this repair is not invisible, it should be strong and smooth to the touch.
Looks good, it is solid, and smooth to the touch. Should be trouble free for years to come.
